Splashes of light, all around.........

Lightning has made it imperative that we get inside for our daily thunderstorm.  Steve's grandpa died from a lightning strike, so he's the first one to shoo us in.   Quickly got the coop and run covered and grabbed some produce to work on while stuck inside.

More broccoli to get processed, and eaten.  Whoo Hoo!
I'm learning a lot about broccoli on this journey through the straw bale garden.   Like, the chickens REALLY like it.  ALL parts of it.  They've had the florets and the leaves, and will kill to get them from the other girls.  Also, each plant just keeps on making heads; many plants are on their 3rd round.  The one plant that wasn't doing anything was going to be chopped up and fed to the chickens when I noticed a tiny head finally forming.  So, it has had a reprieve.  The plants are bigger than I thought they'd get.   Having never seen it growing, I didn't know what to expect.
Now, is it the straw bales making that happen, or is their size normal?
                                                              Questions, questions.

The leaf lettuces are filling the beds and are so pretty.  Grabbed a bowl full for dinner.  Steve is still enjoying salads, so we haven't hit that wall, yet.  I know he was a little tired of them by summer's end last year.  I added a lot more red oak leaf this year; trying to amp up our vitamins.   Last year, I'd panic when too many lettuces would come in at once.  This year, the girls take care of that problem.  Don't know what I'd do without them.

The egg watch is still going on.  Somebody is sleeping in the box at night, but no deposits made.   Well, SOME deposits, but not what I'm looking for...........
