Autumn prepping.....

So, we're home and it's time to get to work in the garden.  It froze many of the days we were gone and I found....

... all my poor tomato plants have died.  A small service was performed and the "bodies" laid to rest in the compost pile.  That's a sad amount of tomatoes to lose.  I foresaw sauce in their prime.

A couple leaves on the zucchini were protected by the dead tomatoes, but they were history, too.  Hallelujah!!  NO MORE ZUCCHINI!!!

The garden seems so empty without those huge zucchini and yellow squash plants, which were spilling from the beds just weeks ago.

Netting put away, hoses coiled and stored.  A few lettuce plants still trying their best to survive the cold.  The carrots still going strong.  And the arugula..... still coming up.

I have to say that in some ways I'm ready for the constant work in the garden to cease.
Time for warm fires and reading.  Cocooning and putting on winter weight.
